Baby Journey -Part 12

Baby Journey -Part 12:  Final Preparations

(I've slacked in posting! Trying to catch up. Today while I post this we are at 38 weeks!)
Week 34
Weary. Cheery. Dreary. Steve had it right.
The last couple weeks have started to get rough.  I am back to being exhausted all the time. I am somehow getting even more emotional. And in general any and all pregnancy symptoms are intensifying. Heartburn = way worse. Back pain = all the time and awful.
Also our little guy has gotten big and strong enough now that sometimes his movements hurt me.  Over spring break Cody and I went to a Spurs game (actually a couple!) and at one game at one point, he kicked or punched or did some movement way far into the right side of my stomach area and it REALLY hurt and I gasped and said “Ow!” out loud. The lady sitting next to me turned and looked and seemed concerned. Our little guy actually really likes to stretch out into whatever part of me is over on this far right side that hurts so much.  He doesn’t do it to the left side, only the right. He also now does something where I think he pushes into a certain part of my stomach/uterus because it gets all hard in a spot and often times that hurts too.  It seems like we can distinctly feel him pressing up against me when that happens. Lately it has started hurting and I try telling our little man to please hurry up and adjust himself.
We have now completed a breastfeeding class, baby care class, and 3 out of 4 sessions of our birthing class. Cody said that the baby care class stressed him out and for myself the birthing classes have not helped but rather freaked me out even more.
I am finally at a point where I feel it is acceptable for me to park in these awesome spots.  Up until now I always felt like I should leave it for someone "more" pregnant than me.  Now I gladly take the spot : )
This week we are at 34 weeks. On Tuesday I had my doctor’s appointment.  I go back again in 2 more weeks and then at that point we start doing the cervix checks and I start going in weekly.  Crazy how close we are getting!  This week on Wednesday I started getting some new feelings that I don’t like. I have started feeling strong menstrual like cramps. I literally didn’t feel the first one until Wednesday evening during dinner. Since then throughout Thursday and Friday (today) they have started happening all the time. It’s not pain exactly but they are very uncomfortable. I wish I had started feeling them just a day earlier so I could have asked/mentioned it to my doctor. Also just this week my lower back pain has way intensified.  Often throughout the pregnancy I had back pain mostly only in the evenings after the whole day or after I had been sitting/laying in a position for a while. This week my lower back just hurts all the time, no matter what I’m doing, and it’s waaaay worse. I do not like it.
Lastly the other thing to note this week (-this with the above two things put together has gotten me a little nervous) is that two people said they think it looks like I’ve dropped. Now, remember I’m clueless about all this. I don’t really know what that means (I mean I have an idea and I’ve since looked it up) and I definitely don’t know or trust that it “means” anything is happening. But on Thursday at work this week one of the ladies on my team told me she thought it looked like my stomach had dropped. Then that night at our birthing class the instructor said the same thing. I think all these “signs” or symptoms or whatever they are, are normal. And it seems like for some women these things happen and then they still don’t go into labor for weeks. Other people have commented that when these things started happening it wasn’t too much longer for them. I know there is no way to know, it has just started to get me nervous. In my head he’s not quite ready. I’d like to hit the 37 week mark to feel okay with him arriving. Also our house/duplex right now is literally a disastrous mess. We have no where to organize/put away all the awesome baby stuff we have been given. I had a dream the other night that we had the baby, I was walking around carrying him trying to calm him down, and then I tripped over bags and boxes of stuff all over the floor. So much to do. So little time. And I honestly don’t really know how to solve the problem of lack of space right now.

Sort of on that note - we found a house!  Yay!  We put in an offer and it was accepted. We are currently in out option period and have the inspection tomorrow. We are extremely excited and really love the house! The only downer is that our close date is April 23 and our due date is April 29. So we will either literally be moving with a newborn or I will be about to go into labor at any minute. Needless to say I am feeling stressed. Very excited about all the amazing things happening soon, but very anxious as well.  We could definitely use some prayers about it all. I’ll share more about the house once it all is more set and the inspection is done and our option period is over.

Weeks 35-36

Being very honest I have reached a point somewhere within these last two weeks of often being quite the complainer and grump.  Thankfully Cody can somehow usually tell the difference between times when it’s okay for him to slightly ignore my daily repeated comments about how uncomfortable and exhausted I am and times when he needs to step in and emotionally support me because I’m on the verge of a meltdown.
35 Weeks!

The farther along I get I even more so just cannot fathom continuing to get farther along each week if that makes sense.  I cannot imagine getting bigger, rounder, more uncomfortable, having more back pain, swollen feet, etc.  Everything just feels like it’s already at it’s max, yet I fear it likely isn’t unless I have our little boy in the next few days.
Last Tuesday we had our 36 week appointment (a week ago as I’m writing this) and that started our weekly appointments and the super fun cervix checks.  I was 1 cm dilated and 60% effaced. My doctor has bluntly told me though that the numbers don’t necessarily mean anything. She said she’s had patients come in already way dilated and effaced and still don’t go into labor for weeks, just like she’s had patients come in with zero progress who go into labor the next day. (So then my question is why exactly are those extremely uncomfortable checks important?) I’m a little worried that already having some super slight progress plus having tons of people make comments that I’ve ‘dropped’ and look ready to pop and asking when my due date is and giving faces like “are you sure?” - is all going to lead me to believe that I’ll have him earlier rather than later. Honestly I am hoping for that : ) but since there’s no way to know and there’s a chance I could even be late and last for another 4 weeks… oh my goodness, please no, I’m worried I have false hope that it won’t be much longer.

36 Weeks!
36 weeks belly shot : )

Week 37

Today officially is 37 weeks!! Whoop! I am READY for him to arrive whenever he chooses to : ) Cody has politely asked me to wait until this Thursday as he has a project at work that started today and ends tomorrow, and after that he is on board with as soon as possible. So one more day… then I am whole heartedly rooting for our little man to get so uncomfy in there that he’s ready to meet us.
Part of me feels so ridiculously ignorant about all of this stuff dealing with labor and it’s caught me off guard.  I literally did not expect there to be discomfort like this until labor started. I mean, I knew at the end women are super uncomfortable due to being huge and exhausted and swollen… but I did not realize that there would be pre-labor things like cramping and that the whole Braxton Hicks false contractions could be so uncomfortable.  The other day Cody and I were walking around Target and (*Note: Please do remember because I am very open about this - that I am a huge wimp and seem to have a much lower pain tolerance than other people - but nonetheless, this is true to what I feel.) I was making quiet moaning noises with the Braxton Hicks and grabbing my stomach and Cody made a comment like “Aren’t these the fake easy contractions? What are you going to do about the real ones?” Seriously. Pretty sure I made a face that clearly read "You might want to slowly take back that comment, Mr."  But seriously -the cramps are awful! The worse cramps I’ve ever had and they just stick around and don't leave for hours.  Usually by the end of each day my feet are swollen (which grosses me out for some reason), my back is killing me, I am beyond exhausted, and the cramps are constant and awful.  I am usually about ready to burst into tears when I roll onto our bed each night and then spend 5 minutes trying to get comfortable (or rather finding the least uncomfortable position).  There are a couple things that I’ve found help some: a massage on my lower back, a heating pad on my lower back, sometimes sitting and moving on a birthing ball helps, and then my favorite choice (often after some of the massage and heat) is going to sleep for the night. I will say that Cody has been awesome about massages and encouraging me to try the birthing ball and get the heating pad for me. Thanks Loves : )
Besides just being ready to be done with this stage and being so uncomfortable all the time, I am also finally ready at work.  I feel like if I didn’t go back tomorrow I would be leaving things in a good place. Which is a really nice feeling that I am not worrying about anything there (unless obviously I’m overlooking something huge … which hopefully is not the case). I have a long-term sub binder all prepared with at least everything I could think of that would be helpful or necessary information for the sub to have. I have things organized in my room (at least more so than I normally do just for myself) and also have the writing plans done for my team for the rest of the year. Short of being there myself to explain plans for whenever that first day ends up being, I don’t know what all else I could do.
My Long Term Sub binder and my Writing Plans for the remainder of the year.
I was SO relieved to get these items ready for my sub and team : )
Hoping I didn't miss anything!
And lastly our house is finally at a point where I feel like it’s ready, or as ready as it possibly could be considering the move.  (Have I mentioned that officially? I think I’ve said we were looking for a house… well we found one! Yay! We are closing on a house that Cody and I love on April 23rd! And our due date is April 29th! So … it’ll be a toss up which happens first.) But for where we are now at the duplex, we have a Pack 'n Play all prepared and a Rock 'n Play sleeper as bed options, a dresser crammed full of baby stuff, a changing area on top of the dresser with diapers and wipes easily accessible, and our car seat installed in our car. And we are so fortunate to have such amazing friends that spent part of their Saturday last weekend over at our duplex helping us (and by helping I mean doing at least 80% of the work) get organized with all our baby stuff and packing/moving mess. Seriously until they came and helped I felt like our house was a disaster zone and actually had a dream that I’d had our baby and came home and was tripping over things while trying to walk around with our newborn. Thanks to their awesome direction and help I now feel like our house is ready and safe!

Cody installing the car seat.
It was a frustrating experience - but that's his fun story : )

Callie patiently waiting during the car seat installation process.
Dresser and changing area.

Even though I know we won't actually be really bathing him at the beginning, I like having all our bath items organized and ready to go.
The Rock 'n Play sleeper and the Pack 'n Play.
We've had the Pack 'n Play set up for weeks now so it's covered with the sheet to shield it from the amazing amount of dog hair that collects in our room.
So overall everything is ready whenever our little guy is : )  Despite the discomfort and anxiety about not knowing when everything will happen, I am so, so excited to be able to see him and meet him and hold him soon. It is sort of surreal that we are at a place where we could not have a baby today, and have a baby by the end of the day tomorrow. It is comforting though to know that the Lord knows when his birthday will be : )  I had a friend say that months ago when she was pregnant and waiting and it stuck with me. His birthday is already known and planned and the Lord has had this all in motion since before we even knew we were going to have him.

Maybe this will be my last pre-baby post! Maybe not. We will see : )

This is about to be our future!

In our small group from church, two couples recently had their first child (one is now about 5 months and one is about 5 weeks), and another couple is also pregnant and due just one week before us.  One of the girls emailed this poem that she found.  Cody and I found it pretty entertaining right now.  I'm curious if once we are actually in this phase of life and sleep deprived and frustrated that our little guy won't just go back to sleep... maybe it won't be so funny then. But for now it definitely made us smile and laugh.  Thought it was worth sharing : )

MY BABY BETWEEN THE TIMES OF 3 AND 4 AM: A POEM.

I am hot.
I am cold.
This is a blanket? This is not a blanket. Do not insult me.
Are you sleeping?
You are really sleeping.
I have pooped.
Change me.
Ha. I had not pooped.
I had not even peed.
Amuse me by trying to sleep again.
WHO SWITCHED OFF THE LIGHT?
I am feeling very sleepy.
My eyes... they are droopy.
I am almost asleep.
I am asleep.
No I am not.
Fool.
Hiccup. Hiccup. Hiccup. Hiccup. Hiccup. Google "newborn severe hiccups" if you truly love me. Hiccup.
I am hot.
Feed me.
Feed me now.
This is not a human nipple.
What is this? I hate this.
Give me boob now.
Very good.
Look at me.
Do not look at the iPad when you're feeding me, stupid woman.
Look. At. Me.
I am full.
No I am not.
I am full.
No I am not.
I am full.
Really.
I am quite full.
Stop this. What nonsense.
Do you like this sweatshirt you are wearing?
Is this your favourite sweatshirt?
Oh this is the first one you bought after losing weight?
Really?
Vomit.
I enjoyed that. Go change.
Pull my finger.
POOP!
Look, we can all act as if this nappy change can wait till the next feeding.
Or you can be a responsible parent and change me now.
Guilt. You adults are so predictable.
Personal best there I think.
From a sheer quantity perspective.
Edge to nappy edge.
Is this cotton wool from Tesco? What kind of family is this?
I am hot.
Sing me a song.
Ugh. Hindi song please.
Hand me over to mummy.
MUMMY MUMMY MUMMY YAY YAY YAY.
Not that song.
Not that song.
Not that song.
Not that song.
That song.
I am cold.
I SLEPT OFF FOR TWO MINUTES AND YOU PLACED ME IN A COT? I HATE YOU I HATE YOU POOP VOMIT PEE POOP
Mmmmmmm... adult bed... love adult bed...
Smile. Smile. Smile. CRY CRY CRY CRY CRY.
Have you tried white noise?
According to Mumsnet white noise remind babies of the womb.
This is white noise?
Ha ha. Garbage.
Remove that obscene sound.
Mumsnet it seems. Charlatans.
Who will burp me? Your father? Burp me.
What time is it?
3:53 AM.
Think I am ready to sleep now.
Is one of my eyes smaller than the other. No? Google urgently.
CODE BROWN! CODE BROWN! CODE BROWN!
Change me.
Where is the fresh nappy?
Go on. I will give you a minute.
Muahahahahahahaha. No I won't.
Urine trouble now. LOL. Please RT.
Place me in the cot while you clean the bed.
Play some white noise.
Dim the lights?
Naaaaice.
I will sleep now.
Love me.
I am cold.

Anyone else find that humorous or just me?  -Here was the original link from where my friend found the poem:

On a totally different note, I am nervous about spring break now being over and going back to work tomorrow.  I have NOT felt well consistently over this break and have reached some magical point in the third trimester where not feeling well has become more of the norm than the exception.  I have gotten seriously light headed and dizzy to the point of needing to immediately lay down or else thinking I would pass out 4 times during the last week.  Overall I have just been SO exhausted even though I have done almost nothing.  I slept in every day, woke up, ate breakfast, would usually lay down or sit in our recliners and watch a T.V. show, then be so tired and not feeling well that I needed to go back to sleep.  Anyway, to make my point without starting to ramble more, I am getting concerned that I will not be feeling well at school and not sure how I will handle that since I can't exactly just go lay down for a while.  We will see how it goes.  I'm especially nervous for tomorrow because 1) it's the first day back 2) it will be SUPER busy with our school baby shower after work followed by a baby care class at the hospital for the whole evening and 3) tomorrow is our field trip!  Field trips are so fun but more tiring than a regular school day.  Anyway.  Those are my current thoughts as I am preparing for spring break to officially be over.

Only 3 more weeks until we are full term!!! We are getting crazy close to meeting our little man : )

Baby Journey - Part 11

Baby Journey -Part 11:  Ups, Downs, and Looking for a House for Baby!

Weeks 29 and 30
29 Weeks
I’ve mentioned before the phrase my father-in-law said at the very beginning of our pregnancy about the 3 stages: “Weary - Cheery - and Dreary.”  In the first trimester I was absolutely weary and felt awful the first 16 weeks. During the majority of the second trimester I really was pretty cheery : )  Genuinely enjoying being pregnant. Felt kinda cute with a baby bump. Loving every minute of feeling and later seeing my little guy moving around in me, and overall I mostly felt pretty good.  Well. I sort of wish Steve had used a number of different adjectives instead of “dreary” for the third trimester, because so far he has been pretty accurate. I don’t think my “dreary” stage is full force yet - but honestly I can definitely feel it sinking in.  As I’m writing this I’m just about done with 30 weeks as tomorrow we reach 31 weeks. So basically 9 more weeks to go - if the little man holds out the whole time. I cannot imagine continuing to get bigger for 9 more weeks. I cannot fathom having more trouble getting out of bed than I already do.  And if you have seen me walking up the stairs or down the hallway at school by the end of the school day -then you probably agree with me that you can’t imagine me waddling and walking much slower than I already do.

I know that it’s going to happen. I know that it’s a good thing it means the baby is continuing to grow and develop and gain weight just like he should (and like I want him to) - just, I hope it’s understandable since this is my first go-round with all of this… that at the point I’m at now, I just cannot grasp how it’s all going to continue to just -grow and certain aspects of already being uncomfortable will get worse.
A cute outfit that my dad picked out : )
About a week ago I had another tiny meltdown. This one was tiny I would say.  Maybe not even a “meltdown” just so much as I was really not feeling well, was exhausted, and already feeling very uncomfortable. Anyway. Cody and I were watching something on TV and I was complaining about how I was feeling.  I was saying these type things about not imagining how I will still get so much bigger and more uncomfortable and suddenly tears just start streaming down my face. I sat there silently crying for a few minutes and then Cody noticed. He was sweet and reassuring and then said that I should definitely write this down to share in my blog. He thought I would find it hilarious later. Well - I am writing it to remember it, but I am not finding it hilarious!  I am pretty much still having the same thoughts and feelings just minus the crying meltdown.

On another note - this past weekend I was sick, and by sick I mean SICK.  I haven’t been that sick either ever - or at least since I was a little kid. Fortunately it didn’t start until the very end of the school day last Friday.  It was the end of the day just about time to pack up and clean up. I had started to not feel well about an hour before and the feeling just kept getting worse. I reached a point where I was about to get sick and couldn’t wait, so I had my suite mate watch my room while I waddled as fast as I could down the hall to the faculty bathroom. In the bathroom (feel free to skip to a less gross portion of this post) I threw up like I haven’t thrown up… maybe ever. Numerous times. I was so loud while vomiting that I thought surely if someone was walking in the hallway they would hear me and think someone was dying. I puked my guts out (did I mentioned that I’m a loud person while throwing up?) and tried my best to quickly clean up the mess because nobody wants to clean that up, especially if it wasn’t your vomit. The reason for the mess was due to my stomach. (Which will only be getting bigger remember? -Although I do NOT want to get sick again, ever, while pregnant like that.) My belly was both in the way and too uncomfortable to bend over to get closer to the toilet while puking, so I was hovering higher than I normally would while throwing up, and unfortunately therefore that created a lot of vomit splash coming back up. I got a little on my shirt. Anyway. I cleaned up as best and quickly as I could. Quick waddled back down the hall thinking I was going to pass out before I made it to my room. Walked into my suitemate’s room and I clearly must have looked as bad as I felt (also I was gone quite a while) because she immediately asked if I was okay. I think I just mumbled that I threw up and needed to go.  She took out my dismissal kids and I grabbed what I needed to leave ASAP.  The whole walk to my car and drive home I was whispering to myself “Please don’t throw up yet” just hoping to make it home. At one point I frantically started looking for anything in my car I could throw up into and decided if I had to my school bag would work (yes filled with papers and all - I was desperate). Fortunately I barely made it home.
Enough of the gross sick story, right? Wrong. I was home and more sick (like I’ve already stated - are you starting to get the picture?) than I think ever in my life and Cody was out of town for a statistics conference in Florida.  Perfect timing. I started calling and texting my mom.  There was no way I could get through being this sick by myself and especially being pregnant I was scared about getting dehydrated.  I have no clue if it’s true or not, or possible but not likely or not, but I had heard a few stories about being pregnant and getting so dehydrated -from being sick like I was, that it could send you into premature labor.  I called my OBGYN after about 2 hours of vomiting about every 15 minutes. The office was closed but I left the message of a dying person for the on-call doctor. She called back immediately and well I was throwing up so I couldn’t answer. I called again and this time when she called back I was able to answer. She called in a prescription to stop the vomiting. I knew I couldn’t make it to HEB to pick it up and back so fortunately by the time my mom was able to make it out to our house she was able to pick up the prescription on the way.
I don’t feel the need to continue to explain how the weekend went. I think you get the majority of the picture. Let’s just say my mom stayed with me Friday and Saturday night and the first time I didn’t get sick was Sunday.  Worst. Weekend. Ever.  The first evening and night my mom made numerous calls back to the on-call doctor.  We were also constantly texting my aunt and sister-in-law who are both nurses.  There were a couple points I was really close to wanting to go to the ER for an IV just to be safe about not being dehydrated, but with the medicine and my mom making me continue to drink water and Gatorade whether it came back up or not, we decided I was staying hydrated enough to be okay. I took a half day today (Monday) and that might have been too much.  I slept in a ton and woke up feeling not good but okay in the morning.  If we didn’t have parent conferences starting Tuesday I would have taken a whole day, but I felt like I had to start getting stuff ready for them. By the time I left school I was beyond exhausted and feeling like the half day was way too much.  I am as I write feeling so not well again that if we didn’t have a writing benchmark and the parent conferences tomorrow I would want to take another half (or whole) day.  Hopefully sleep tonight will help me to wake up feeling better.

A man and his dog. They're such a good match and so silly!
Week 31
-- Wow I wrote a lot about that awful weekend being sick! I’m coming back to this now on Saturday. I finally started to really feel better Wednesday and Thursday this week and am now officially back to the usual pregnancy symptoms instead of sick symptoms:  sore back, often being uncomfortable, super slow and now getting tired often again, and I guess it’s not that uncommon that lately I’ve started to get really bad indigestion/heartburn again like I did in the first trimester. How I’m feeling and my mood really depends on the day at the moment. One day I feel like I’m already ready to be done being pregnant and am on the verge of a meltdown; the next day I’m still feeling good and am happy and loving being pregnant and seeing/feeling our little guy moving around. However by the end of the day come nighttime - I am consistently grumpy and ready to get as comfy as possible (haha) in bed asap. Cody has gotten pretty accustom to my new routine bedtime between 8:30 and 9:30 at the latest.
We needed at least a couple more pictures to document Cody during this pregnancy journey. I may have the growing belly but he is also a big part of everything : )
31 Weeks!
As today is now March 1st, it's a little scary to say that next month is baby month!!
Last week we had our first baby prep class!  For a while now I’ve felt like once the end of February came and we had our first class, that from there it would all fly by. Our first class was a breastfeeding class. I’m really glad we went and felt like it was very encouraging and positive.  I think I needed that because as Cody has pointed out, I’ve heard a lot of negative and am sort of expecting an awful experience. And even though it very likely will be a struggle at first and painful, I really think I needed to hear the benefits of it again and that it isn’t always as awful as I might be thinking. Cody went with me -he will be going to all our classes : ) and he felt the same way. He is very on board with doing whatever he can to help breastfeeding be as doable as possible.
March is definitely going to fly by I think. We will now be starting a 4 week series on childbirth with a class each Thursday evening throughout the month. We also have all 3 of our showers that I’m excited for : )  Of course there is also Spring Break!! I am VERY ready for a week off to relax, focus on me and baby prep stuff, and possibly not wear pants all day. Pants are really starting to get uncomfortable.  Cody has made funny comments about worrying that he will never see me in pants again at home. My return comment is something about - shouldn’t he enjoy the fact that I’m pant-less? It really should be considered a win-win.

All of the shower invites turn out so adorable!!
First shower invitation being hosted by my sister-in-law and Cody's aunts : )
Second shower is being hosted by my 2nd grade team at school : )
Third shower is being hosted by my mom and two cousins : )
Lastly a small news update: Cody and I are OFFICIALLY looking at houses now!! I am so glad that we are finally actually started for real and are now in a possible position of finding a home (I know it would be crazy quick - but still slightly possible) before the baby arrives. We interviewed two realtors, choose the person we’d like to work with, and are set up to go look at our first batch of houses tomorrow afternoon/evening : )  We have a list of our top choices, based on online pictures and info, from a search our realtor sent us and our TOP house we are actually extremely excited to see tomorrow. We drove by it a couple times today and at least from the pictures and description online we both LOVE it. Hopefully we love what we see in person tomorrow.
The closer we get to all these big events this year, being the baby and house, makes me so aware of how blessed we are.  The Lord has really provided for us and blessed us with SO much. Every morning I’ve been waking up and saying prayers of thanks for everything we have that I’m so grateful for. He has really blessed us in our marriage, with our families and friends, in both mine and Cody’s jobs, with getting pregnant and so far having everything go well and looking like he should be good and healthy, and now the opportunity to purchase our first home soon. God has given us more than we deserve and shown us so much love, grace, and provision. I hope I never stop being thankful for both the big things and little daily things that often get overlooked.
That’s it for now. We’re off to take Callie to the dog park.  She deserves a good run around free time outside and it’s a beautiful day to go sit with my Loves on a bench.
Off to the park we go!
We LOVE McAllister park : )
Callie is such a cutie! The dog park is one thing that thankfully wears her out!
